I am interested in the computations performed by neuronal ensembles in the visual system. As a graduate student I am working with Matthias Bethge and Andreas Tolias developing statistical methods and employing multi-cell recordings in awake primates.

Current interests:
What is the structure of neural population activity in primary visual cortex and how is this structure modulated by the statistical properties of the visual input? (see recent paper in Science, press release)
What are useful tools to analyze and model population activity? (see 2,3,4 and 5)
How are different measures of neural activity such as local field potentials and multi-unit activity related? (see 6,7)
Development of a Data Management System for Electrophysiological Data Analysis (see 8)
Theory of (neuro-)science and ethical questions arising from neuroscientific progress
Code:
CircStat, a Matlab toolbox for circular statistics including functions for descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing and correlation analysis (Link). The toolbox is described in detail my article, which can found here and at JSS. The toolbox was selected as File Exchange Pick of the Week.
Code to generate samples from a correlated binary random variable or a correlated Poisson distribution (Link).
