Information for PostDocs

After their PhD exam junior research scientists can apply for a postdoctoral stipend or a temporary position at the institute directly to perform a research project. Note that even if at a given point in time, we might not have advertised scientific openings, we still may accept speculative applications, provided they are outstanding. Applicants for a special research area (which shall be third party funded, e.g. by Marie-Curie or ERC program) can contact the departments directly. A short stay as guest researcher is also possible.

During the postdoc phase, the focus is on making a mark through exciting research projects, important publications and stays at renowned international research bodies. You will work independently under the supervision of directors at the Max Planck Institutes, build up supporting networks and acquire the ability to take on management responsibility in addition to your specialist expertise. Experts from the Planck Academy and other facilities of the Max Planck Society, e.g. Max Planck Innovation or the Max Planck Digital Library, will support you with tailored career development.

What we offer

  • You will benefit from a fixed-term employment contract according to TVöD (public sector employment). The duration depends on your qualification goals. Under certain conditions, a stipend is also possible.
  • Our common guidelines for the postdoc phase (https://www.mpg.de/guidelines-postdocs) provide the framework for your independent career development.
  • The Planck Academy offers tailored seminars to help you develop your transferable and communication skills and prepare you for leadership roles. Other focus areas are project management, science communication, entrepreneurship, career planning and work-life balance.
  • In addition, coaching offers, career events such as Career Steps as well as the Industry Track, a support program for doctoral candidates, postdocs and research group leaders who aspire to a path from science to industry or the public sector, are open to you.
  • Moreover, the Max Planck Campus Tübingen provides a childcare facility and equal opportunity offerings.
